THE EXCEPTIONAL HARLEY FETTERMAN
received her Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. She worked
for several NASA contractors and eventually married a TAMU
classmate, Steve York, from Houston. However, a few years later,
Beth's marriage failed and ended in divorce. During this same time
period, Kevin also had met and married his first wife, Wynell. But
after settling down for several years they eventually divorced.
In 1995, Kevin initiated a conversation with Jamye (Williams)
Royal inquiring about Beth's current circumstances. Shortly
thereafter, Kevin phoned Beth to ask her out to dinner. The fateful
renewing of their friendship appeared to re-align their stars once
again. This time certainly not to remain just friends. Beth and Kevin
were married on December 23, 1995 in New Orleans and then moved
to Austin, Texas the following June. George West once again became
a site for their rural family gatherings.
Harley Fetterman was born in Austin on July 2, 1998 to proud
couple, Kevin and Beth. His birth, as they anticipated, was the first
eventful experience in a lifetime of adventures to follow. Beth's
obstetrician was anxious to depart on his vacation trip to Brazil for his
Fourth of July holiday getaway and, coincidentally, baby Harley was
also about a week past his due date. Beth was scheduled for delivery
inducement on July 2 . The expectant parents arrived at the hospital

at dawn with Beth soon feeling the contractions from labor inducing
medication. Kevin assisted with Beth's epidural procedure by holding
her securely to prevent her slightest movement. But the doctor
unintentionally hit a nerve as he inserted the needle into Beth's spine.
She jerked suddenly and involuntarily as the puncture felt like
electricity flashing down her leg. Kevin yelled out in his own related
“labor pain” as he became her unintended target.
Beth remembers her labor taking a long time. By evening, twelve
hours into her delivery process, her doctor excused himself to catch
his vacation flight. Another doctor was assigned to complete the task
at hand. Kevin, himself, got so hungry he retreated to the far corner of
her labor room and attempted to eat a quick snack—which did not
please an exhausted Beth after dealing with heavy labor contractions
all day. During contractions, she could only find slight comfort by
laying on her right side even though the nurses encouraged her to
move from one side to the other. When it was discovered that the
