The top three places were: first place (standing center), Cricket
Bidleman from San Diego, California; second place (standing on
right), Harley Fetterman from Austin, Texas; and third place (standing
on left), Lauren Thomson from Earlham, Iowa. Harley earned real
bragging rights by finishing second out of 1,106 initial competitors
from North America (US and Canada).
His prominent level of achievement at the National Braille
Challenge competitions was evidence of his acquired expertise in all
applications of Braille within his academic performance. Harley was
at the top of his game in these competitions just as he had predicted.
Harley qualified to participate in the National Braille Challenge in
Los Angeles nine of twelve years. He won third place in 2013 and
second place in 2015 at the national level.
