A Leader Supporting Others
Harley's confident, outgoing personality, and dedication to others
with struggles similar to his own made him a natural advocate for
both cancer victims and visually impaired kids. He was always eager
for any opportunity to participant within numerous organizations to
promote his “in-your-face” expletive themes of “Kick Cancer's Ass!”
and “Live the life you want. Blindness shouldn't hold you back.”
In 2004, the LIVESTRONG foundation hosted its inaugural
LIVESTRONG Day at the Travis County Expo and Heritage Center
with a six-mile fun ride and additional routes of 25, 40, 70, and 100
miles through eastern Travis County. The Ride for the Roses event,
established in 1997 as a fundraiser for cancer research and support for
cancer survivors, raised $6,000,000 and distributed 18 million
