No. 010 ‘Doll’

Artist: Gillian Still, 1996 (signed underneath)
                                           Medium: Porcelain Size: 20cm x 19 cm

Gillian Still (1939) studied painting at Farnham School of Art to begin with and then changed
disciplines to sculpture during the four-year course. Her final years training was spent at
Brighton College of Art where she qualified as an art teacher. While lecturing sculpture at
Harrow College of Art she taught all forms of sculpture from welding steel to
                                                  modelling terracotta.

In 1965 Still moved to Wales to raise a family, teach, and work in her studio. She concentrated
on small-scale bronze sculpture and ceramic figurative groups. During this time, she first
began to experiment with porcelain, a difficult material that she found great affinity working
with. Since then she has refined her skills and expertise and is now ranked as one of the
foremost porcelain sculptors in the world. The fine detail of the ‘Doll’ sculpture FARA Fine
Art offers for sale clearly shows Still’s mastery of the porcelain medium.

In 1989 Still opened Foundation Fine Art gallery in Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire where other
works from this ‘Dolls’ series have been exhibited.
