Fine Arts: Digital

                        Arts


               •  Intro to Digital Photography- (middle & high school) This class provides students with an introduction to
                   basic photographic principles using their DSLR cameras. Students will implement techniques of
                   composition and
                   lighting, combined with an understanding of the “photographic triangle” (aperture, ISO, and shutter
                   speed), to create stunning images.
                   Course content includes: Camera Settings, Lighting, Composition, Using Flash, Troubleshooting, Layout
                   and Design, ISO, Aperture, Shutter Speed, Basic Digital Editing, Photographing wildlife, pets, sunrise,
                   sunsets, flowers, forests, night photography, and more.
                   Required Text: Tony Northrup’s DSLR Book: How to Create Stunning Digital Photography Teacher: Syria
                   Sanchez Recommended Donation of $12 per weekly class

                   Required equipment:

                   DSLR camera (digital SLR)

                   Your camera’s manual

                   Notebook and pencil or laptop for notetaking
                   USB cable or other way to transfer your digital images to a computer

                   Access to a laptop of home computer to download and edit digital images

                   OPTIONAL: a laptop to bring to class for a few specific dates, to work on in-class image editing.


               •  Advanced Digital Photography - This is a class geared toward students who understand and implement the
                   principles of the photographic triangle (aperture, ISO, and shutter speed), and who can comfortably shoot
                   in manual mode using their DSLR cameras. Students in this class will spend time exploring different genres
                   and fields within photography, such as portraiture, scientific photography, product/industry/advertising
                   photography, wildlife photography, sports photography, forensic photography, and documentary
                   photography. Students will improve their technical skills by learning about white balance and focal point
                   settings, and will begin using Adobe Lightroom for the digital enhancement of some images. Required
                   Textbook: Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson, 4th edition Teacher: Elka Swingle  Recommended
                   Donation of $12 per weekly class

                   Required equipment:

                   DSLR camera (digital SLR) Your specific camera’s manual

                   IDEALLY: a laptop to bring to class for a handful of specific dates, to work on in-class image enhancement


               •  Graphic Design- (high school students) The class will explore the basics of graphic design, as well as
                   photoshop, illustrator and general typography. Students will have the opportunity to create their own
                   font, and learn to get their work published. Required Textbook: pending Required equipment/supplies:
                   Laptop/computer to bring to class (Adobe Photoshop will be provided as a download with this class, for
                   your use for the academic year) Teacher: Claire Thai Recommended Donation of $15 per weekly class


               •  Image Post-Processing with Photoshop- (grades 9 and up) Unlock the potential of Photoshop. Using
                   industry- standard techniques, students will apply their learning towards practical applications such as skin-
