Iowa’s Goldstein Dominates
Nevada State Women’s Amateur
Morgan Goldstein was a standout Southern Nevada Junior
Golf Association and high school player (Faith Lutheran).
Now she has evolved into a top player in the state, recently
winning the Nevada State Women’s Amateur played at Jack
Nicklaus’ Reflection Bay Golf Club at Lake Las Vegas by a
dominating eight strokes. Goldstein is also a rising sopho-
more at the University of Iowa.
“Before this I didn’t have the best tournament,” Goldstein
said. “I was sliding my hips so my miss would be a block.
I worked on focusing on my hip turn and it really helped Morgan Goldstein
my swing and my confidence. I got off the golf course and
was super proud of myself. I played solid and smart golf.”
Goldstein works with teaching professional Jeff Gallagher
at the High Performance Institute of Golf at Lake Las Vegas.
Long Beach State golfer and former Bishop Gorman player
Hunter Pate finished runner-up with two junior golfers,
Yani Wilson and Lily Denunzio, who plays at Coronado
High School.
Longtime Nevada amateur legend Sherry Jackson won the
gross division in the Silver State portion of the event, while
Tiffini Phu was the Silver State net champion. Jackson
returned from injury to win for the first time in a long time.
“Oh, my God…it’s been forever,” Jackson said. “I tore a ham- Sherry Jackson
string tendon in October of 2018 and it’s taken me this long
to feel like a golfer again.” For Phu, it was a golf career high-
light. “I’m still on Cloud 9,” Phu said. “This is absolutely the
best thing that’s happened my whole life of playing golf.”
