SARAH F. BURNS PHOTO BY EZRA MARCOS
Sarah F. Burns took as many art classes as possible throughout her
school years, and attended an art college in Portland. Her mother cre-
ated a home where beauty was evident, the style more simple than
elaborate. Her grandmother also had an eye for the unique, and these
influences can be seen in Sarah’s attraction to “humble” objects, the
beauty of everyday things, as well as in her still lifes and landscapes. She
calls it accidental beauty.
With Sarah’s strong sense of place and a deep connection to the valley,
she feels she is making little historical records with her artwork, docu-
menting things as they are now so people in the future will know. The
building she portrays today might not be here in 50 years. “I want to
create something thoughtful, enjoyable and long-lasting.” Her keen eye
for the past, the present and the future and how they link together give
her work a depth and richness, a painting with a story to tell.
Her husband, Tom, supports her all the way, and for that Sarah is
grateful.
