KEVIN CHRISTMAN
Eight-year old Kevin Christman found his dad’s art books in a cedar ► Better light design can lead to a healthy environment.
chest. Perhaps feeling he shouldn’t be snooping, he sneaked them
into his room and started learning art. He later took art classes with ► Efficient light leads to a cleaner environment.
his father. In high school he was given the key to the art lab and told ► A healthy & clean environment can lead to a better life.
to lock up when he was done.
Upon graduation, however, he listened to discouraging voices and Design Tips:
went into engineering. He lasted five-and-a-half years until the strong
pull of his calling landed him in art school. Lumen is the total amount of light coming from a light source.
LUX is the intensity of the light on a specific area.
Kevin likes the satisfaction of commission work, bringing vision to
someone’s idea. Having people moved by his art in public spaces is
also satisfying. His sculptures reflect life behind the eyes, what the
sculpture is thinking. Being involved with the entire process—the clay
model, pouring the metal, doing the welding—helps that happen.
Christman recently created 32 stained-glass windows depicting para- Murphy Lightworks
bles and 16 bronze sculptures depicting saints for St. Mary’s Chapel.
He also did a stained-glass window for the Havurah Synagogue, as 786-626-9995
well as several public sculptures in Ashland. Should you notice a nine-
foot, stainless steel skateboard in Talent, that too, is Kevin’s work.
