RETINA CARE CENTER
When someone contacts Retina Care Center, they are dealing with serious issues such as
blinding eye disease and diabetes. As Surgery Scheduler and one of Retina Care Center’s
Lead Scribes, Brandi McRae plays an essential role in keeping the clinic moving along.
When an individual calls, she works with the doctors to determine whether they need to
see their eye doctor or the retina specialist. She schedules surgeries, helps with prescrip-
tion refills, and serves as liaison between the front desk and the back (medical) office. She
also trains staff in new techniques and technologies, such as when the center implemented
electronic medical records.
As a medical assistant, she does imaging, diagnostic testing, retinal scans, and assists the phy-
sicians with injections and laser treatments. Equally important, she eases patients’ fears by
explaining what to expect with a procedure. Many have ongoing issues, and she sees them
often enough that relationships form. She knows about the patients’ lives and they know about
hers, and she feels a loss when one them passes. Brandi totally loves what she does.
