Group Meditation.
Group meditation varies little from personal meditation other
then the fact that there are a number of people gathered together to
expand their purpose within a common bond. The same criteria apply
as for one meditating but there are greater sense of security for those
in a group than if there is only one person involved.
Every group should appoint one of its number as a "watcher".
A watcher is one who does not go deeply into meditation rather they
keep their attention on the welfare of the group. This enables the
group to feel greater security and safety during their sitting, permitting
them to access greater depths in their meditation.
It is still necessary that a theme is decided upon and that there
should be no change in the mind of any individual during the sitting,
that the group ensure that they are in total agreement on the theme for
their sitting. Again the directing of the group into relaxation is also the
responsibility of the "watcher", and the rest of the group can relax
because of the protection of the "watcher". Having attained the
required state of relaxation the meditation may proceed. With
somebody available to direct the meditation it is possible that a guided
meditation could also be undertaken.
Guided meditation is valuable in that it helps to lift the
consciousness easier as it permits the mind to be occupied on one
level of consciousness while the Spirit works at another level.
