Residential Security Fundamentals                                                  When in doubt,


           Top level Executives’ personal residences are a potential target for                    contact
           criminals and activists. Sempra Energy Corporate Security provides                    Corporate
           these fundamentals to improve your safety, security, and protection.                    Security
           Review and share this information within your personal network.

            Physical Security

             Install a centrally-monitored electronic alarm system, complete with door, window, glass
               breakage, and interior motion sensors.
             Install security cameras which cover all possible access points and integrate them with the
               alarm system. The system should have video and still frame recording capability and storage.
             Install eye-level peepholes in the front entry door and/or install exterior gate cameras.
             Change any pedestrian gate codes every six months or as-needed.
             Ensure all exterior doors are constructed of solid-core materials and possess secondary
               locking mechanisms, i.e. flush bolts, slide bolts, or deadbolts.
             Lock the electric service panel box to prevent tampering, or paint over the access screws to
               know when the panel has been opened.
             Increase the height and density of external hedges and trellises without obstructing
               window views.
             Replace any loose decorative rocks which can be used to vandalize or cause injury.
             Secure any outdoor tools and ladders which can be used to enter the residence.
             Add motion sensor-activated flood lights to the exterior perimeter and all possible approaches.
             Post house numbers on the property, which allow emergency services to quickly locate the
               residence during exigent circumstances.
             Post a “No Trespassing/Loitering/Soliciting” sign in front of the residence, if permitted by the
               homeowner’s association. Access control signs can be a deterrent to criminals.
             Vet all domestic employees, both current and future, by an established company which
               complies with local, state, and federal laws.
             Activate all security measures (alarms, cameras, locks, and lights) even when you are home.
             Place spare keys in a lock box, never under a doormat, planter, or ledge.


            Communication

             Save law enforcement and Corporate Security telephone numbers in your cell phone.
             Maintain regular contact with neighbors and share reports of suspicious activity; obtain as much
               detailed information as possible, i.e. date, time, location, statements, physical descriptions, etc.
             Always use a cross-cut shredder on any document which contains sensitive information.
             Immediately report suspicious mail/packages to Corporate Security and do not touch/handle.

             Leave a generic message on the home answering machine, which provides no occupant details.
