                                                                                          is your first line of
Top level Executives may be at greater risk while traveling. To defense
improve your personal safety and enhance your security posture,
Sempra Energy Corporate Security provides the following recommendations:
              AIRPORTS

 Do not place valuables such as computers, jewelry, or currency in your checked luggage. Always
pack valuables and company property in your carry-on.
 Never leave your baggage unattended, even when using the restroom.
 Avoid external solicitation for services such as transportation, restaurants, and entertainment, which
               usually occurs upon airport exit.
 Avoid using company identifiable information on luggage tags, such as logos and business cards.
              HOTELS

 Always lock the door to your room. While inside, use the deadbolt and security chain.
 Be familiar with all locks in the hotel room, especially the sliding glass door and patio area.
 Do not open the door to unknown persons. Use the peephole and call hotel security.
 Display “Do Not Disturb” or “No Service” sign for your room, even when not inside.
 Turn the television or radio to a low volume and leave a light on inside your room, especially while
away. Both actions give the impression the room is occupied.
 Confirm the door has closed and locked when leaving your room.
 Request a room between the 3rd and 7th floors and away from the front lobby. This offers added
protection from criminals but still allows access to fire rescue ladders.
 Use the primary entrance when entering or exiting the hotel.
 Carry valuables and company property on your person. If you cannot carry them, place them inside
your locked luggage, room safe, or the hotel safe deposit box.
 Review the emergency evacuation plan and know the location of fire escapes and stairs; ensure the
hotel has functional smoke detectors and fire extinguishers.
 Keep the hotel sleeve key out of plain view; they are clearly marked with your room number.

            TAXIS

 Use only car services recommended by the hotel or airport, those which pick up/drop off at
designated locations. In Mexico, these are known as sitios. Never let the taxi ‘hail’ you on the street,
they should have designated pick-up locations and a dispatch number.
 Do not discuss sensitive or company information inside taxis or other ride services. Always be aware
of potential eavesdroppers when holding discussions.
 Sit in the rear right side of the taxi whenever possible. This is a safer position in the event of a
collision, and allows you to monitor the actions of the driver.

            RESTAURANTS

 Loop backpack, purse, or other bag strap under one of the chair legs when sitting for meals. This is
an easy way to prevent someone from stealing it.
 Do not place your phone or other valuables on the table. If unavoidable, be sure it’s away from
walking lanes where somebody could grab upon exit.
 Do not let servers walk away with your credit card, they should perform the financial transaction in
your presence using a portable device.

                                                                                                                7
