Is THIs PANDEmIC TRUly "UNPRECEDENTED"?

and are filled with click bait. News stations keep a
constant stream of bad news pumping through every
possible form of communication, and our addiction
to screens keeps us misinformed. The reason why the
world didn’t shut down during the Spanish Flu was
due to the fact that nobody could get information
instantly. The reason so many have forgotten about
the swine flu is because social media wasn’t quite

explosive yet. And the reason nobody cares that the
common flu had such a high death count is frankly
because it’s old news as far as diseases go. It’s not
sexy anymore. The coronavirus has such little proof
behind it, which makes it easy for media outlets to
capitalize on. The reach of social media and devices
allows this fear to spread and further affect our

current way of life.
So reading through all that you’re probably
thinking “well that’s a lot of not-so-fun facts” but the
point here is that throughout history, Americans have
fought through adversity, trials, and tribulations.
We have experienced MUCH worse throughout
our history. We never have experienced the mass-
produced fear that we are seeing now and we have
never before forcibly shut our economy down.

Listing out other ways that people have died in
recent history is not meant to instill more fear—
quite the opposite. It’s meant to show you that the
