"Brilliant Universe": The Painting of Lu Kuan-hui

Artists are absolutely isolated and helpless in front of a blank canvas. It is because they are faced with the unique problem and sequence
of art creation as other knowledge and disciplines have their special laws. They can only fight with the materials on their own and make
explorations day after day. For Lu, the appearance of the external scenes lingers in her mind. However, she can't just imitate and depict the
objects objectively. Therefore, by eliminating the images of the real objects and scenes, she develops the intangible lyrical abstraction that
appears tangible to reconstruct and recreate reality without presuppositions and deliberate depictions and freely express her inner feelings and
                                mind.
"Brilliant Universe," Lu's solo exhibition in 2024 places creation in a state of opposition. The instability of the moment and the core
consciousness of reality stir up and balance each other. Through the harmonious use of the Oriental calligraphy lines and the Western
integration of abstract lexicons, the Western media carry the Oriental vision. The use of symbols and signs also reflect the painter's
internalized feelings and confessions to the real environment. With the concise and analytic simplification, the abstract, intangible,
philosophical, and boundless tension and texture are revealed in the picture, leaving the broader space for imagination and making the
viewers involuntarily develop a sense of expectation.
Lu's painting style is full of vitality and enthusiasm for the surroundings. The characteristics of calmness, boldness, and sensibility
are manifested by the expressive colors and flowing lines that are sometimes strong and sometimes soft. The works indistinctly unveil the
equality and integration of everything with nature. As Zhuangzi's The Adjustment of Controversies (Qi Wu Lun) said, "Heaven and the earth
live together with me, and the myriad things and I are one." The harmony is different from the "human-centered" philosophy in Western
Modernism. The picture looks tranquil, ethereal, and peaceful, with strong literary lyricism. As the viewers look at the "scenery," it is not the
pure naturalistic landscape, but a transcendental world with vivid charm beyond the surface.
The exploration of the creative essence is the artist's instantaneous capture and display of the real life and environment. It reflects the
aesthetic image of the era and the social background he or she lives in. At the same time, it is also imprinted with the regional characteristics
and symbols of the era. For Lu, who pursues her artistic life enthusiastically, creation does not apply to the existing pattern, knowledge, or
standard procedure. Instead, it has to be transformed into various structures of shapes and colors and reconstructed into the inner landscape to
express the harmonious co-existence of men and the universe.
If we really want to see something, we have to use our keen eyes to spot the subtleties. In my opinion, Lu reveals infinite vitality and
hope as well as the simplified but profound thinking of Oriental culture in her works through the artistic conception of nature and expresses
her sincere praise for the gifts bestowed by the land. Such personal experience and practice are the most precious inspiration a creator can
                                give to people.
