Sesquiterpenes

A- Acyclic sesquiterpenes:

Sesquicitronellene & Farnesene

Occurrence: Oil of citronella.

Preparation: by fractional distillation.

Uses:

1. In scenting soap and cosmetics.
2. On digestion with formic acid, it gives the monocyclic sesquiterpene “Bisabolene”,
which is a precursor for the preparation of bisabolol (anti-inflammatory).
