Uses: 1- In pefrumes, cosmetics and soap industries to impart a rose like odour.
2- insect repellent, good mosquito repellent at short distances.

2) Geraniol and Nerol ( Geranium رطعلا تابن )
Ocurrence: in geranium oil & neroli oil (the blossom of the bitter orange tree,
lavander oil, coriander oil usually occurs in combination)
Isolation: Geraniol forms a crystalline complex with anhydrous CaCl 2 which is
insoluble in benzene or ether and decomposed in water into geraniol and CaCl 2,
while nerol does not form such complex with CaCl 2

Uses: Geraniol and nerol have agreable rose-like odour, so they are widely used
in perfumes and cosmetic industries.
o Geraniol is the most widely used isolate in many perfume or
cosmetic industry.
o Geraniol is used as mosquito repellent.
o Both are air sensitive and become disagreable after sometime.
o Geraniol is considered a severe eye (and moderate skin) irritant.
