CHAPTER 3: INFLUENZA

会話 1: Symptoms and Influenza Test

Lyla has some symptoms of influenza and has come to
the hospital to get tested.

Doctor: 日本人 Lyla:ブラジル人

Doctor : Hello. From your file, it shows that you have had a high fever and headache.
Lyla : Yes. When I checked this morning, it was 42° Celsius.

Doctor : Oh, that is very high. But it is lower now I see.
Lyla : Yes, it is down now because I took some aspirin.

Doctor : Have you had any other pain?
Lyla : Yes, I have some muscle aches and I feel really tired all the time.

Doctor : Is there anyone around you that has caught the influenza that is prevalent now?
Lyla : Influenza? One of my co-workers got influenza this week. And I think my house-mate is sick
too.

Doctor : Have you been coughing or sneezing?
Lyla : No.

Doctor : I see. Well... first, we will give you an influenza test.

Lyla : An influenza test? But I don't have the symptoms of influenza. I don't have a runny nose ,

sneezing or any cold-like symptoms .
Doctor : Sometimes all of the symptoms do not show up for a few days. It may be a good sign, It
may mean that we have caught it in its early stages. Have you had an influenza vaccination?

Lyla : No, I usually get one, but this year I was just too busy.

Doctor : I see.
Lyla : What is the influenza test?

Doctor : Well. We have to take a swab from your cheek and throat and test it for signs of the
disease.

Lyla : OK.
