会話 3 : Medication and Risk of Drug Interaction

The doctor prescribes an oral inhaler for Lyla.

    医師はライラに経口吸入器を処方します。

Doctor : I will prescribe you a drug called Relenza. Have you heard of it?
Lyla : No. I don't know that name.

Doctor : It is also called Zanamivir.

Lyla : No, I have never heard of it.
                                                          11
Doctor : OK. Well, it is taken by oral inhalation .
Lyla : Like an asthma inhaler?
                                                                               12
Doctor : Yes. Very similar to an asthma inhaler. Do you suffer from asthma?
Lyla : No. My brother has asthma so, I know what an inhaler is.
                                          13
Doctor : Fine. This disk inhaler is the way to take the drug.
Lyla : How do you use it?

Doctor : Well. The nurse and the pharmacist will show you how to take it properly.
Lyla : Will it help with the headache and muscle-ache?

                                                                                   14
Doctor : I think that your influenza symptoms are in their early stages , maybe less than two
days. If so, then this medicine will relieve those symptoms a little.

Lyla : Can I go to work?
Doctor : No. I do not recommend you going to work with a possible flu infection.

Lyla : But, I just can't cancel my classes.

Doctor : I will write a note for your employers or have the receptionist contact them if you have the
        contact information.

Lyla : How many days do I need to take off?

Doctor : At least one week to ensure that the infection has cleared. The Relenza might reduce the
recovery time, but I suspect that the symptoms will probably get worse before they get better.

Lyla : If I get some cold symptoms, I have some antibiotics leftover from the last time I was ill. Can I
        take those with the inhaler?

                                                            15
Doctor : That is not recommended. Mixing drugs is dangerous. Besides, with influenza, antibiotics
        will not be effective.

        Lyla : I understand.
