       Society of Philippine-American Artists Exhibit Award-Winning Works

           In the midst of Filipino-American History Month, the
Society of Philippine-American Artists (SPAA) celebrated its 25th
Anniversary with the SPAA annual exhibit at the Lobby-Gallery of
the Philippine Center in New York last 15 October. The exhibit
ran from 15 to 26 October. Consul General Claro S. Cristobal
graced the Exhibit Opening.

       31 participating Filipino-American artists and one special
entry were featured at the Exhibit, where 6 winning works were
selected based on beauty, skill and technique, meaning or
theme, uniqueness, and intended level of achievement. The
winners, announced during the opening of the Exhibit, were:
Puerto Rivas Fishermen by Angelito David (Watercolor); No
Fishing by Apolinario Folloso (Acrylic); A Piece of Manhattan by
Angelo Maristela (Oil); Travel by Christian Ray Blaza (Mixed
Media); Texting in Coron by Carlos Esguerra (Photography); and       Consul General Claro S. Cristobal witness the Opening of the Exhibit of the

Gallery recalled when SPAA was formalized in 1993 following the regular informal gathering of many artists in New York under
                                                                     the Father of Philippine Modern Printmaking, Manuel Antonio Rodriguez,
                                                                     known to many as Mang Maning. Ms Rodriguez was the exhibit’s guest
                                                                     curator and served as a blind judge for the competition.

                                                                                Mr. Art Zamora, 2018 President of the SPAA welcomed guests,
                                                                     artists, sponsors, and volunteers to the well-attended event.

                                                                                Among the artists were the Philippine Consulate General’s Ms.
                                                                     Lolinda “Lulu” Villamater and Mr. Ronald Cortez of the Philippine Center.
                                                                     Mr. Christian Ray Blaza, one of the 2 second generation participants and
                                                                     is the son of Tourism Attache Milay Blaza.

                                                                     Other artists who participated part in the exhibit were: Hill Benitez,

                                                                     NYPCG’s Consular Outreach in Saco, Maine

                                                                    The Philippine Consulate General in New York delivered consular
                                                         services to the Filipinos and Filipino-Americans at the Ramada Hotel in
                                                         Saco, Maine during the Labor Day Consular Outreach on 1 September
                                                         2018.

                                                                     Almost 200 services were provided to the community: 75 Passport

                                                         applications, 18 Dual Citizenship, 11 Notarials and Authentication, 15 Civil

                                                         Registry, and 70 Overseas Voting Registration. Applicants were grateful to
