MARRIAGE
Introduction
Marriage (Nikah) is a moral, spiritual, and a legal bonding meant to unite a man
and woman as husband and wife respectively. Marriage is a lifetime commitment
made by two couples with common interest of making their own family, staying
together till death does them apart. Marriage is mentioned in various sections in the

Holy Quran, as part of Islamic practice (Surah 4:4 ). Holy Qur’an refers to
marriage as a strong covenant, (mithaqun Ghalithun). Quran (4:21) It says: “and
they have taken a strong pledge (mithaqun Galithun) from you”, therefore marriage
is a Holy covenant.
There are few conditions that advocates the age which one is ready for marriage as
per the Islamic teachings and practices. Accordingly, the Holy Quran justifies
(Baligh) puberty, financial capability, and emotional readiness as the primary
fundamentals of marriage. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) says: " O young men
whoever is able to marry should marry, for it will help in lowering of gaze and
guarding of modesty."
Harmonious marital relationship is built upon mutual love, persistence, respect,
unwavering faith, tolerance, moderation, acceptance and appreciation of one
another. Muslims should embrace and support marriage and condemn divorce,
since Allah (SAW) condemns it. An example, Prophet Mohammad (PBUH)
through his hadith narrated by Ibn Umar says: “There is no lawful matter which is
more detested by Allah (SAW) than divorce". (Dawood Ibn Majah). Therefore,
