The top carved through a layer of cinnabar The cover superbly carved with a central
lacquer to a dark green cell-pattern ground diorama of two scholars visiting another See a box of similar form, Qianlong six-
with a central medallion of eight interlocking scholar in a lakeside pavilion, the landscape character mark and of the period, illustrated
ruyi-heads encircling a chrysanthemum dotted with trees, dwellings and rocky by H.Chen, Carving the Subtle Radiance
flower, all framed by the Eight Buddhist mountains, each element finely detailed, of Colors: Treasured Lacquerware in the
Emblems among leafy peonies, camellias all enclosed within a key-fret border, the National Palace Museum, Taipei, 2008,
and other flowers under a further ruyi-border, rounded sides with five scenes of scholars at no.109. See also a similar box and cover,
the side edge of the top and recessed waist leisure with their attendants, the box similarly Qianlong, illustrated in The Creation of
