                                                              The shape of the present stools closely compares with a related
                                                              pair of huanghuali barrel-shaped stools illustrated by Wang Shixiang
                                                              and C.Evarts, Masterpieces from the Museum of Classical Chinese
                                                              Furniture, Hong Kong, 1995, pl.19, where the stools are compared
                                                              with a Ming dynasty zitan drum stool in the Chengde Palace. See a
                                                              related pair of hongmu barrel stools, Qing dynasty, which was sold at
                                                              Christie’s New York, 24 September 2020, lot 924.
