A RARE AND LARGE CARVED CINNABAR
LACQUER BOX AND COVER
Qianlong
The flat circular cover top finely and deeply carved
with an elaborate scene of three scholars eating
fruit and sweetmeats on a rocky lake shore, a
fisherman crossing a bridge in the foreground, the
shore dotted with dwellings, trees and mountains,
all within a wave-patterned border, the sides of the
box and cover with a continuous landscape scene
of villages within a rocky riverscape, the interior and
base lacquered black. 19.5cm (7 6/8in) diam. (2).

清乾隆 剔紅山水人物圖蓋盒

The present lot is rare in having the sides carved
with landscapes; circular cinnabar lacquer boxes
are usually carved with diaper-patterns on the sides.
