A JADE CARVING OF QILIN
MING DYNASTY OR EARLIER
The stone is carved in the form of a recumbent single-horned qilin
with a bifurcated bushy tail grasping a spray of lingzhi in its mouth.
The opaque stone is of a pale celadon tone suffused with russet
veining and with a patch of dark brown inclusion on the back.

A CELADON AND RUSSET JADE ‘MYTHICAL
BEAST’ PENDANT
SONG DYNASTY (960-1279)
The pendant is carved in the form of a recumbent single-horned
mythical animal with rounded eyes and a broad snout, its bushy
tail flicked to one side. The stone is of a mottled greenish-white
tone suffused with caramel-russet ‘skin’ and veining.

A SMALL JADE CARVING OF A RAM
SONG DYNASTY (960-1279)
The stone is carved in the form of a recumbent ram with
downturned grooved horns and all feet tucked underneath the
body. The material is of an opaque beige tone suffused with pale
russet.
