A FAMILLE VERTE ‘IMMORTALS’ VASE
KANGXI PERIOD (1662-1722)
The vase is decorated and gilt with a continuous scene depicting Xiwangmu
at her birthday with various immortals, Shoulao and his attendants, and a qilin
all wishing her well. She is accompanied by her attendants and phoenix, all
amongst trees and fowers in a fenced garden before a pavilion. The shoulder
is decorated with a foral band interspersed with four of the Eight Precious
Things, babao, and the other four on the neck.
