A SMALL BRONZE WINE CUP
LATE MING DYNASTY
of oval section, the deep rounded sides rising from a short foot, cast with a mythical beast
loop handle on one side and a spout on the other, the exterior with two cartouches
enclosing a scene of birds and plants, interrupted by a large ruyi bloom and a key-fret
diapered ground, the countersunk base incised with a further key-fret diapered ground, the
surface patinated to a warm chocolate colour with traces of gilt-lacquer
9.4 cm., 3 3/4 in.
