A LARGE BRONZE
ARCHAISTIC VASE, HU
QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY
The vase is cast with a globular body
rising from a spreading pedestal foot to
a slightly flared neck flanked by a pair of
ring handles issuing from bovine heads,
and is decorated with bands of of wave
patterns incorporating stylised taotie
masks, archaistic birds, and taotie masks, all
between bands of pendent blades. The foot
is encircled by a further band of birds.
