A CINNABAR LACQUER ‘CHICKEN’ BOX AND

MING DYNASTY, 15TH CENTURY

The cover is finely carved to the top with a chicken and chicks
amongst rocks and foliage. The sides of the boxes are well-detailed
in high relief with a band enclosing flower blossoms. The base and
interiors are lacquered black.
