MING DYNASTY (1368-1644)
The stone is carved in the round as a recumbent
mythical animal with rounded eyes and a broad
snout. Its head is incised with finely detailed fur,
and its thick bushy tail is flicked to one side. The
pale yellowish-celadon stone is suffused with russet
streaks and inclusions.

A WHITE AND RUSSET JADE CARVING
OF A MYTHICAL BEAST
QING DYNASTY (1644-1911)
The carving is modelled as a recumbent mythical
beast with a long single horn, rounded eyes, broad
snout and bifurcated tail which is flicked to one
side. The softly polished stone has a faint celadon
undertone and concentrated areas of milky and
russet inclusions.
