A CELADON AND RUSSET JADE ‘MYTHICAL
BEAST’ water pot
QING DYNASTY (1644-1911)
The single-horned beast is depicted with a beard and long neck.
Its rounded body forms the receptacle of the water pot, and is
carved in high relief with feathered wings to the sides and scrolling
tails on the back. The pale celadon stone has dark and milky
inclusions, and concentrated areas of russet.
