LATE MING-EARLY QING DYNASTY, 17TH CENTURY
The washer is finely carved as an irregularly-
shaped open tree trunk, with three sinuous chilong
clambering onto the rim, and slithering through
holes of the tree. The semi-translucent stone has an
attractive soft polish, with inclusions ranging from
mottled caramel to dark russet.

A WHITE AND RUSSET JADE ‘CATFISH
AND CRANE’ WASHER
QING DYNASTY (1644-1911)
The washer is carved in the form of a lotus leaf
with the edges incurved forming the receptacle.
The sides are finely detailed with a lotus flower
stemming from its root opposite a descending
crane which is grasping a lingzhi branch. A catfish
is carved on the underside. The semi-translucent
stone is of an even white tone with concentrated
areas of russet colour.
