An aventurine and blue glass double-gourd snuff bottle                   A rare green overlay aventurine glass ‘cricket’ snuff bottle
Early 19th century
Carved in relief through the opaque blue glass and aventurine-decorated  19th century
around the double-gourd body with two bats in flight amidst ruyi-head
cloud scrolls, hardstone stopper.                                        The rounded square body supported on an oval recessed foot, the
6.8cm (2 2/3in) high (2).

                                                                         The combination of green overlay on aventurine glass is rare and
                                                                         unusual. A related example decorated with two crabs, dated to the
                                                                         mid-Qing period, can be seen in the Qing Court collection in the Palace
                                                                         Museum, see The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace
                                                                         Museum, Hong Kong, 2003, pl.124. Another example was sold in our
                                                                         New York rooms, 22 March 2011, lot 132.
