412 | Bonhams The cover painted on a red lacquer ground with twelve gilt wan
characters in seven different forms surrounded by ten bats in flight
amidst foliate lotus scrolls, the sides with four bats each grasping a spray
of two peaches in its mouth, alternating with lotus blossoms on leafy
scrolls and one further bat between lotus, the sides of the box similarly
decorated with five bats amidst lotus scrolls, the interior and underside
lacquered black.
