A blue and copper-red garlic-mouthed
baluster vase
Chenghua six-character mark, 18th century
The elegantly curved body delicately painted
with a single group of copper red peony and
chrysanthemum blossoms issuing from underglaze
blue leafy stems behind copper red Lake Tai
rockwork, a grasshopper perching on a millet stem
and a butterfly flying above, the neck painted
with a single bat flying above copper red lingzhi
fungus and blue bamboo between key-fret at the
shoulder and ruyi-head at the rim.

A large blue and copper-red vase, hu
18th/19th century
Painted all around the bulging body with two
continuous foliate meanders each issuing six
lotus blossoms with alternate blue and red petals,
all between bands of ruyi-head and key-fret
terminating in chilong heads at the foot and rim,
the handles each formed as a stylised elephant-
head with tusk and curving wrinkled trunk.
