A fine famille verte rouleau vase
Kangxi
The cylindrical body vividly painted in the
famille verte palette with a continuous scene
of Xiwangmu accompanied by an attendant
and bearing three peaches on a platter
descending on a scaly long-tailed phoenix
amid cloud scrolls towards a yellow-robed
Emperor surrounded by dignitaries and with
an attendant holding up a large fan painted
with two red four-clawed dragons, the figures
in front of an altar set with precious vessels
with a screen behind painted with a landscape
scene beside bamboo blinds bearing the
four-character mark Shui Guang Shan Se, all
on a stepped terrace within a garden of lush
trees and rockwork where six scholar-officials
and two generals gather, the shoulder with
decorative geometric bands beneath the neck
enamelled with four boys variously playing with
a leafy sprig, a lotus-shaped lantern and a crab
as a dragonfly hovers above.
