Of upright cylindrical form, with a flat lip and unlgazed foot rim, the Of rounded rectangular form with a cylindrical neck, flat lip, slightly
body of the bottle with a cobalt blue enamel ground depicting two splayed oval foot ring, each side with a recessed panel, one depicting
magpies and flowering prunes branches, the foot with a turquoise a bird and blossoming tree in enamels, the other with a poem deftly
glaze. incised into the Yixing, all set against a ground covered with cobalt
3 1/4in (8.1cm) high blue enamel except the mouth and foot rims left unglazed, the interior
of the neck and recessed base with an yijun glaze.

An identical design on a yixing bottle of hexagonal form was sold in US$3,000 - 5,000
these rooms from the collection of Barbara and Marvin Dicker, 16
March 2015, lot 1025. Together the magpie and prunus form a rebus The incised poem reads: “yigu yijin, wafou jinyu, Shiquan”. It can be
offering a wish of “happiness up to the eyebrows”. translated approximately as “Yi(xing) from antiquity or Yi(xing) from
today, this earthenware pottery is (as precious as) gold and jade. By
1800-1860 宜興紫砂挂藍釉施彩’喜上眉梢’鼻煙壺 Shiquan”.
Shiquan was the designation of Wu Yin (1867-1922), a native of
Shaoxing, Zhejiang. A Yixing ware teaset with blue enamels bearing
his seal that was part of the Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Hawthorn collection
of Yixing was sold in our Hong Kong galleries, 27 May 2012, lot 536.
