AN INSIDE-PAINTED ROCK CRYSTAL
SNUFF BOTTLE
Zhou Leyuan, 1891
Of rounded rectangular form with a slightly
spreading neck, flat lip, splayed oval foot
ring, painted in black ink and subdued colors
depicting a misty garden with rocks and
various florals, further accented with small
insects; one side inscribed Wei Mingshan
jian zhi (made under the supervision of Wei
Mingshan), with a red seal cartouche, the
other side inscribed Qing Bada Shanren bi yi
(in the style of Bada Shanren from the Qing
dynasty), dated xinmau (1891), signed Zhou
Leyuan, followed with one red seal mark.

BOTTLE
Attributed to Zhou Leyuan, dated 1888
Of rounded rectangular form, with a cylindrical
neck, flat lip, spreading oval foot ring, painted
in muted colors on one side with a herd boy
on a water buffalo near a village with trees
and houses, the reverse decorated with an
aged plum tree with sparse blossoms, dated
wuzi (1888), with a signature reading ‘Leyuan’,
followed with a red seal mark.
