A rare pair of small Yixing stoneware 「砥成」篆書印
‘chilong’ cups
18th century, signed Dicheng 直口，鼓腹，圈足，以一螭龍銜靈芝為杯耳，杯內
Each cup raised on a narrow foot, with gently 及足嵌銀，杯壁鈐「砥成」篆文方印。

The name of the potter ‘Dicheng’ is not recorded
in traditional Yixing connoisseurship. However, End of sale
a closely related example is illustrated by
T.T.Bartholomew in I-Hsing Ware, China Institute
in America, New York, 1977, pg.79, pl.54, where
similar marks identified as ‘Yancheng’ are impressed
on the base of the stoneware cups. Compare
another identical pair of cups but with saucers
from the Mr and Mrs Gerard Hawthorn Collection,
acquired from Hugh M. Moss Ltd. in 1966, and later
sold in these rooms, 28 November 2011, lot 227.
