An inscribed Mansheng-type Yixing stoneware
teapot and cover 陳曼生,即陳鴻壽。嘉慶六年任官淮安同知,酷愛詩、書、文、畫。
Jiaqing/Daoguang, incised Chen Mansheng 相傳設計曼生十八式,並由紫砂名工楊彭年等製壺,凡此都屬雙款,
世稱「曼生壺」。合歡壺為「曼生十八式」壺之一,相傳為曼生喜極
The short wide body with steep sides narrowing at the waist, the 而製。此壺雖不見宜興陶匠印章,但風格綺麗,造型工整,壺身刻字

《The Stonewares of Yixing: From the Ming Period to the Present
Chen Mansheng (1768-1822), also known as Chen Hongshou, whose Day》,香港,1986年,頁109,圖47。
studio name or hao is ‘A man tuo shi’, is a native of Qiantang, present-
day Hangzhou. During the sixth year of the Jiaqing period (1801),
Chen was appointed as the magistrate of Huai’an. As a connoisseur
of paintings, calligraphy and various other scholarly objects, Chen
exercised his talents and many years of experience to blend together
and influence the construction of forms, techniques for rendering
pictures and engraving of inscriptions. The results were a category of
eighteen teapot forms, now known to us as ‘Mansheng pots’, believed
to be designed and commissioned by the scholar.
