An Yixing stoneware Gongchun-style
‘wood grain’ teapot and cover
19th/20th century, signed Jiang Anqing
Naturalistically potted in the form of a pumpkin
with burlwood-like crackled textures on the
exterior, flanked by a short spout and opposing
C-shaped handle forked at the lower end, the cover
surmounted by a stem knop, the stoneware of a
greyish-brown tone, the underside of the cover
impressed with a two-character zhuanshu square
seal mark.

Jiang Anqing (1886-1953) is a native of Yixing
county. He was known for his teapots with either
simplicity or naturalistic forms during the late 19th
and early 20th centuries.
江案卿(1886-1953),宜興大浦洋渚人,清末民
國著名紫砂藝人,製壺技藝樸素,工藝精簡,惜傳
器不多,常表現淳樸農家的喜悅,製壺工藝嫻熟。

An Yixing stoneware ‘hundred-fruit’
teapot and cover
19th century, signed An Ji
Naturalistically moulded as a pomegranate with
a ‘bat-fruit’ handle and lotus-shoot spout, the
skilfully-fitted cover moulded in the form of an
upturned mushroom, the main body decorated
with applied fruits and nuts around the shoulder in
different-coloured clays and slip, including peanuts,
red bean, soy bean sunflower and watermelon
seeds, supported on three feet modelled as a red
date, lychee and ginkgo nut, the stoneware of an
even rich reddish clay, the underside of the spout
impressed with a two-character zhuanshu square
seal mark.
