AN INSCRIBED RECTANGULAR DUAN INK STONE
DATED KANGXI CYCLICAL GUISI YEAR, CORRESPONDING TO 1713 AND OF
THE PERIOD

The ink stone is smoothly polished with a recessed inkwell below a grinding surface incised
with a coin motif, a character, and a seal. The reverse is carved with a second griding
surface below a concave inkwell. One side is incised with an inscription signed Wang Shu
(1688-1743) and dated to 1713, the opposite side is incised with a five-character inscription,
Shiyizhai zhengcang, ‘Collection of Shiyizhai’, followed by two seals. Accompanied by
Momiyama Isyou’s Juxingyan scroll.

Shiyizhai is the hall name of Cheng Conglong, who was active during the 18th century and        (inscriptions 硯銘)
had published an anthology of seals from the Qin and Han dynasties in 1738. The scroll
acccompanying this ink stone bears several colophons, including those by Momiyama
Isyou (1855-1919), Luo Zhenyu (1866-1940), Yang Xuesi, Kimura Seiun (?-1967) and
Toyozane Motoyama.

清康熙 端石硯及《掬星硯記》手卷

師意齋珍藏、塏、一□翁(側面一)
康熙癸巳夏,五月十有九日,同石城朱履安采石吳鈍人家,敬倚過訪程五,有懷出此
相賞,因記姓名於其上,良常王澍書(側面二)

籾山衣洲《掬星硯記》設色紙本手卷,附有多位名家題跋及鑑藏印,包括聽雨居士、
籾山衣洲(1855-1919)、羅振玉(1866-1940)、楊學泗、平盦園田穆、坂東貫三
生、木村棲雲(?-1967)、幽篁堂(Yukodo)主人(Toyozane Motoyama 本山豊寶)
等人。
