AN INLAID GILT-BRONZE FIGURE OF
AMITAYUS
QING DYNASTY, KANGXI PERIOD
the deity modeled seated in vajraparyankasana,
the five-pointed diadem crowning the regal
brow and long tresses falling alongside either
broad, rounded shoulder, wrapped in a shawl
with sashes coiled around the forearms, the
hands held together to hold a bhumpa, the dhoti
arrayed around the legs in luxuriant folds, the
garments with incised floral borders and the
jewelry with glass and stone inlays, the figure
raised on a double lotus base sealed with a
baseplate incised with a double vajra
height 6¾ in., 17 cm

of amitayus in the Qing Court Collection,
preserved in the palace museum, Beijing,
