A fine and rare pair of large blue and enamelled
‘double-eagle’ vases and covers
18th century, the stands later
Each finely decorated with two double-headed eagles each beneath
a foliate pomegranate suspending a peony flower, alternating with
two stylised iron red, blue and gilt-petalled flowers and flanked by a
qilin and a phoenix, all amidst dense peony branches, the shoulders
with ruyi-shaped lappets containing chrysanthemum blossoms, the
neck with a band of floral scroll, each cover similarly decorated with
double-headed birds and stylised flowers between qilin and phoenix
and surmounted by a biscuit Buddhist lion finial, marble-inset
giltwood stands.
