A rare grisaille and gilt ‘Cape Town’ plate
Qianlong
The plate delicately enamelled in grisaille with gilt, red and blue
enamel detailing depicting one ship with three masts broadside and
another ship from the stern each flying Dutch flags, a small fishing
boat sailing nearby, the background with a view of Cape Town
nestled under a dramatic Table Mountain rising to the clouds, the
scene surrounded by foliate garlands between cornucopia at the rim.
