A rare pair of famille rose figures of
a ‘Turkish’ boy and girl
18th century
The amusing male figure dressed in baggy yellow
trousers beneath a pink waistcoat tied with a red
belt under a turquoise open surcoat and wearing a
black peaked hat with a long iron-red fold reaching
down the back, the right hand raised at the elbow,
the female figure also smiling with the head tilted
to the left beneath a yellow hood bound with a
flower, the right hand raised and the left clutching
a fur-trimmed robe above a pink dress and blue
underskirt.
The taller 13.5cm (5¼in) high (2).

A famille rose figural group of the
‘Laughing Twins’, Hehe Erxian
Jiaqing
Amusingly modelled striding forward together, one
with a leafy stem issuing a lotus pod and bud over
his right shoulder, his left arm wrapped around
his companion holding a basket-weave box, both
figures with cropped hair enamelled in grisaille
above rosy cheeks and laughing broadly.
