A rare Chinese Imari Pronk ‘La Dame
au Parasol’ circular sauce tureen,
cover and stand
Circa 1735
The tureen enamelled with two ladies with a
parasol calling to four birds walking through a
grassy landscape, the high scalloped rim with eight
evenly-spaced cartouches containing a lady or a
bird, the interior with a decorative floral band, the
cover similarly decorated with a scene of ladies
calling birds and cartouches around the rim, the
finial with grassy clumps, the stand also with the
same scene and cartouches around the rim, the
underside with seven blue insects.
The stand 23.5cm (9¼in) diam. (3).

The design for this lot is by Cornelius Pronk
(1691-1759), who was commissioned by the
Dutch East India Company to supply porcelain
designs for manufacture in China. The original
design is illustrated by C.J.A.Jörg in the catalogue
of an exhibition at the Groninger Museum, Pronk
Porselein, Groningen, 1980, pl.31.

A fine famille rose tureen, cover and
stand
Circa 1750
The tureen brightly enamelled in shades of pink,
coral-red, blue, yellow and green with two gilt-
outlined cartouches enclosing delicate floral sprays
including chrysanthemum and narcissus, divided
by a fruiting peach and a leaf-shaped cartouche
containing a smaller floral spray, flanked by two
down-turned leaf-like handles, the stand and cover
similarly decorated with the cover surmounted by a
knob in the form of a leafy stem, all reserved on a
simulated-marble ground.
