A CARVED BAMBOO WRIST REST
QING DYNASTY (1644-1911)
The convex side is finely carved in shallow relief reserving the skin
of the bamboo with a scholar seated under a pavilion by the riverside
with another scholar in the foreground beside a fence, below a dated
inscription reading renzi zhi xiari, ‘summer days in the cyclical renzi
year’, followed by the signature of Xihuang, and a two-character
square seal reading Zhang shi.
