The vase is fuidly painted to the exterior in brown iron pigment
with foral sprays between bands of foliate motifs, on an ivory-
white slip under a clear glaze.

A LONGQUAN CELADON DRUM-SHAPED JAR
WITH SPRIG-MOULDED DECORATION
SONG-YUAN DYNASTY (960-1368)
宋/元 龍泉青釉纏枝牡丹紋鼓形罐
The jar is decorated to the gently rounded sides with a relief
moulded band of meandering peonies, linked by leafy stems
formed of trailed slip, all between two rows of bosses. It is
covered overall in a glaze of sea-green tone pooling within the
crevices and thinning at the raised areas. The mouth and foot
rim are left unglazed and burnt orange in the fring.
