CIRCULAR BOX AND COVER
19TH CENTURY
清十九世紀 剔紅松下高士圖蓋盒
The cover is carved to the central roundel with a
scene of scholars in a pavilion, surrounded by a
mountainous landscape, pine and wutong trees.
The side of the box and cover are decorated with
a band of four fgural cartouches alternating with
stylised lotus blooms. The base and interior are
lacquered black.

MING DYNASTY (1368-1644)

The cover is carved with a fgure dressed in loose garments, holding a long
staf with a bag slung over his shoulder. The sides of both the box and cover are
decorated with a key fret border.
