A PAIR OF IVORY ‘QUAIL’ BOXES AND COVERS
LATE 19TH CENTURY

清十九世紀末 象牙雕鵪鶉蓋盒 一對

Each box is naturalistically hollowed and carved as a recumbent quail, the body and wings forming the
cover, the head looking up with a pierced open short beak. The underside of each box is carved with a
fowering millet stem around the legs and claws, hollowed with a double-gourd-shaped aperture.
